The 2024 State of Our Schools Event was held in late November and reminded us of what’s possible when a community rallies behind its schools. With the One Chatham vision, our schools are focused on creating equal opportunities for every child, no matter where they live.

The evening was a celebration of our students’ achievements, featuring performances by young musicians, chefs, and playwrights who showcased their talents. Highlights of Arts, Athletics, and Academics demonstrated that Chatham County Schools are meeting high expectations and leading the way in innovative education, from Spark Lab programs to the Yondr Pouch pilot program, which is reimagining phone-free classrooms.

However, as Chatham grows, so do the challenges. Our schools face:

  • Affordable housing shortages for teachers and staff.

  • Doubling student enrollment, requiring new facilities and resources.

  • The need for increased funding and stronger community partnerships to maintain safety, enhance mental health support, and ensure academic excellence for all.

Here’s how we can all help:

  • Partner with schools: Collaborate to provide resources, mentorship, and opportunities.

  • Advocate for funding: Support initiatives that prioritize education in Chatham County.

  • Get involved: Volunteer, attend events, and engage in shaping the future of our schools.

The message is clear—education is a shared responsibility. By working together, we can meet these challenges head-on and make One Chatham a reality for every child and family in our community.
