For over 70 years, the month of May has been designated as Small Business Month. Sponsored by the Small Business Administration (SBA), this month-long celebration is dedicated to honoring the nation’s small businesses, while also highlighting opportunities and resources.
During Small Business Month, small business owners may participate in a variety of events and programs designed to uplift and support them. Events like award ceremonies and trade shows recognize and showcase the achievements of small businesses. Programs like seminars and webinars, conferences and symposiums, and business incubators or accelerators provide opportunities for learning, collaboration, and growth.
Over 31.7 million small businesses in the United States create about 1.5 million jobs annually. Despite the crucial role they play in our economy and society, many small businesses face similar challenges, particularly in regard to competing against larger businesses. And yet, approximately 70% of all small businesses are owned and operated by a single individual, reflecting the dedication and determination required to succeed in the nation’s competitive market. The courage, hard work, and resilience of small business owners are undeniable!
This May, we celebrate the indomitable spirit of small businesses and encourage you to take the first step toward securing your future.
